In 2023, the Idaho Period Project and the SW Boise Days for Girls Chapter lobbied the Idaho State legislature in support of HB313 to provide "feminine hygiene products, free of charge, to all female students in sixth through twelfth grades". The bill failed in a 35-35 tie vote. After that fail, in an attempt to continue educating Idaho constituents and hopefully resuscitate legislation, we created the Idaho Period Positivity Coalition website.
Unfortunately, no matter what avenue we have tried since then, we cannot seem to break through with support to make this happen. So we have decided to end our website.
However, on a positive note, our two organizations have made BIG strides since then to keep this issue in the forefront with this website and by sharing our blogs.
The Idaho Period Project now serves 13 counties, with programs active in 45 schools and 90 bathrooms across Southeast and Southcentral Idaho.
The SW Boise Days for Girls Chapter has 375 period product containers in 138 schools from Bonners Ferry to Malad City that are located IN girls' bathrooms.
The Boise Days for Girls Chapter donates washable menstrual kits and menstrual cups to 9 Idaho college and university food pantries.
Through a generous grant from the Blue Cross of Idaho and the Blue Cross of Idaho
Foundation, our two organizations partnered to support 49 remote Community Schools across Idaho with an initiative to support menstrual access for students and families. This initiative provided:
Period Packs (enough for a menstrual cycle) and/or packaged menstrual products
Tools, resources and guidance to help their school or community partners continue the program independently.
Option to participate in a 3-month pilot program to put period products IN their girls school bathrooms.
Raised awareness that period poverty is an issue -- even in Idaho.
Built a solid coalition between two amazing groups of women that support menstrual health for ALL girls and women in Idaho -- and will continue to do so.
Days for Girls has loved sharing our school visits and photos of all the wonderful girls, counselors, teachers and nurses we have met since 2022. The Idaho Period Project has loved sharing information on packing parties and our EmpowHer Gala fundraiser that we have yearly so we can continue to buy period products for the schoolgirls we support. We have loved it all!
So thank you for your support. Thank you for supporting the menstrual health of Idaho girls and women. Thank you for being a voice for change in Idaho.
