In the past week we have heard two heart-wrenching stories of young women in need of menstrual supplies -- and what happened. This is why we are committed to making a difference.
She Locked Herself In The Bathroom
"I'm so inspired by the work you are doing. At the end of the last school year, I reached out to our administration and nurses team when I found a young lady who had locked herself in the bathroom stall for 2 hours due to a lack of access to sanitary pads. She had missed two of her classes and not been able to reach out to anyone due to a language barrier. Within the day, our buildings and grounds supervisor and superintendent approved making pads and tampons free at our 3 high schools."
Girls Stepping Up To Help
"We implemented the (pilot) program towards the end of last year. Today, I had a student who was running from bathroom to bathroom to check the caddies for supplies and even went to the nurse who had none. Unfortunately, there was no product in the bathroom at that time, but I was able to get her something from the remainder of the supplies from last year. I immediately had two students take supplies and restock the bathrooms. These students were happy to do so and commented on how happy they were that they had easy access within the bathroom to help. Three girls, within 5 minutes. Thankful for what you have done."
Many schools are still relying on product our Days for Girls SW Boise team donated for the pilot programs. We are working with schools to reach out to JustServe and their local businesses and churches for period product donations. BUT WE NEED TO DO MORE!
Please reach out to your local middle and high schools and donate menstrual supplies. They can always use more.
